Delight your dog with doggy dim sum and enjoy additive-free Chinese cuisine that's good for your body! Spend a healthy and delicious time with smiles at Yumisai
神奈川県横浜市 / カフェ・グルメ
Yumisai (ゆみさい) is located in a hidden spot along Taihei-do, just a step away from the bustling main street.
Its exterior, with its modern and calm charm, overturns the typical image of Chinatown, creating an atmosphere more like a cafe away from the hustle and bustle.
A tranquil ambiance makes it easy to stop by during a walk with your dog.
In front of the shop, there's a terrace seating area enclosed by a wooden fence.
This is the pet-friendly area (limited to 1 table) where you can enjoy a meal with your beloved dog.
Green plants are arranged in white planter boxes, creating a natural and relaxing atmosphere.
At night, the warm indoor lighting and outdoor spotlights illuminate, transforming the space into a much more romantic setting.
Yumisai's cuisine is filled with the deep affection and unwavering commitment of its owner, Mr. Cai, who hails from Hong Kong.
A major feature is that dishes are prepared with as few chemical seasonings as possible, making them gentle on the body.
The menu also offers a rich selection of dishes packed with nutrients beneficial for the body, such as collagen, isoflavones, and EPA.
Stir-fries made with fresh seasonal vegetables are also popular and recommended for those concerned about beauty and health.
If you visit Yumisai, you must try the "Dim Sum 4-Piece Set," a homemade treasure chest that showcases the chef's exquisite ingredients and techniques.
All dim sum are handmade by the chef from the wrappers. With a single bite of the signature Xiaolongbao, a piping hot, exquisite soup condensed with the umami of the filling overflows.
Furthermore, each item, such as shrimp shumai, shrimp dumplings, and jade dumplings (shark fin dumplings), offers a rich, satisfying, and authentic taste, as if you were enjoying authentic Hong Kong dim sum.
Other recommended dim sum include "Pan-fried Gyoza" and "Braised Pork Belly Buns," both exquisite dishes that condense the chef's skill and care.
The pan-fried gyoza, handmade from the wrapper, boasts exceptional chewy elasticity.
Its juicy charm lies in the meat juices that spread with every bite.
The dumplings are packed with ingredients, offering a satisfying bite.
The braised pork belly bun offers a perfect harmony of melt-in-your-mouth braised pork belly and a fluffy, slightly sweet bun.
At Yumisai, there are dim sum options for dogs, allowing your furry friend to enjoy the restaurant's proud dim sum.
Born from the wish for "owners and their dogs to enjoy the same menu side-by-side," this set looks just like authentic Chinese dim sum.
However, it contains no chemical seasonings whatsoever, with carefully selected ingredients such as rice flour from Toyama Prefecture for the wrappers and lean venison from Nagano Prefecture for the filling.
The menu is as luxurious as human-grade food, featuring "Three-Color Dumplings" and "Venison Buns" made with lean venison, "Brown Rice Chimaki" authentically wrapped in lotus leaves, and the "Doggy Dim Sum Set" where you can taste all the dim sum.
A very popular appetizer is "Sichuan Steamed Chicken (Saliva Chicken)."
When you hear "Saliva Chicken," you might imagine intense spiciness.
However, Yumisai's "Sichuan Steamed Chicken" defies that image.
The carefully steamed chicken is surprisingly soft and moist.
It's generously topped with a special Sichuan sauce made with homemade chili oil.
While its appearance is vibrant and appetizing, the spiciness is actually mild and mellow.
It's finished with a gentle flavor where the deep umami and richness of the homemade sauce take center stage, rather than the heat.
Yumisai's popular set meals are truly a hidden gem, allowing you to easily enjoy the concept of "body-friendly Chinese food you can eat every day without getting tired of."
Despite being a set that includes a main dish, rice, soup, pickles, and a delightful dessert (such as almond tofu), it is very reasonably priced.
Furthermore, health-conscious individuals can choose not only white rice but also brown rice, and select their preferred portion size: large, medium, or small.
Among the set meal options, a popular dish known as "rice thief" is the "Braised Pork Belly in Country Style."
The charm of this dish lies in its melt-in-your-mouth texture and exquisite seasoning.
Through a traditional cooking method that spares no effort in "boiling, grilling, and steaming" the pork belly, the meat becomes incredibly tender, melting in your mouth.
The key to its deliciousness is the flavorful dried bamboo shoots (kansaijun), similar to takana.
These dried bamboo shoots absorb the umami of the pork and blend with the mellow soy-based broth, creating an exquisite flavor that makes you unable to stop eating rice.
The chef's recommended mixed rice (煲仔飯 style) features a cooking method that incorporates the Hong Kong claypot rice (Baozai Fan) style, sealing the umami of the ingredients into each grain of rice.
Particularly popular is the "Pork Spare Ribs with Fermented Black Bean Sauce Mixed Rice."
The bone-in spare ribs are steamed for a long time, becoming so tender that they easily fall off the bone.
The juicy umami and richness of this meat deeply permeate the entire rice.
The fermented black bean sauce, made from fermented soybeans, is handmade and finished mellowly.
Combined with garlic, ginger, and sesame oil, it creates a rich yet complex and profound flavor that you won't tire of.
The "Shrimp Wonton Noodles," immensely popular in the noodle category, is an irresistible dish for shrimp lovers, elevating the taste of Hong Kong in Yumisai's unique style.
The main star is the plump and large homemade shrimp wontons.
With every bite, the concentrated umami of the shrimp spreads throughout your mouth.
The accompanying soup is a light, salty broth, characteristic of Yumisai, with reduced chemical seasonings.
It's clear yet rich in dashi umami, offering a gentle flavor that permeates the body.
And the noodles are extra-fine, firm Hong Kong-style noodles.
The firm and elastic thin noodles exquisitely entwine with the light soup and plump wontons.
The drink menu boasts a diverse lineup that further enhances the flavors of authentic Sichuan cuisine.
In addition to the classic draft beer "Kirin Ichiban Shibori," popular choices like lemon sours and highballs are also available.
For Shaoxing wine, a staple of Chinese cuisine, they offer 3-year and 5-year aged varieties, as well as a 10-year long-aged wine with a deep aroma and richness, allowing you to enjoy profound flavors paired with your meal.
You can also choose from a wide range of wines (from France, Italy, Spain, etc.) that complement the dishes, and authentic cocktails popular with women.
Furthermore, all-you-can-drink plans including various sours, Shaoxing wine, and soft drinks are available, so you can enjoy drinks to your heart's content, even at dog-owner gatherings.
After savoring authentic Chinese cuisine, why not visit a spot that will make your memories with your beloved dog even more special?
"DOGBASE YOKOHAMA," located right next to Yumisai, is a unique dog wear shop characteristic of Yokohama Chinatown.
Original wear such as "Wan China" to transform your dog into a Chinatown star, and "Tokkofuku" (special attack uniform) with intricate embroidery, are perfect for commemorative photos!
Semi-custom orders where you can customize the fabric and embroidery are also popular.
